On one level it is surprising how infrequently the phrase ‘calling on the name of the LORD/Lord’ is used in the Bible. But on the other it is clear that when it does occur, it carries significant theological weight. This supports the contention that Genesis 4:25–26 is not simply a historical note, but is a ‘load-bearing’ verse, which establishes the trajectory for at least a significant strand of the Bible’s teaching on prayer.
